Conception is the outset of eternity; when once life is sparked, there is no turning back.
John 1:3 & 4
3 All things were made by him [the Word of God: Jesus Christ]; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
All things were made by (or as some translations say ‘through’) Christ, and without Him was not anything made that was made.
Interesting notion, then that the work of creation continues to the present day. We often assume this verse to mean the beginning of the creation, the seven days in which God created the world in the beginning.
Yet from the context of this passage revealing Christ’s involvement in the creation, wherein it is stated that ‘without him was not anything made that was made,’ i.e. that He is directly involved in all of physical creation, following this verse is an interesting statement about life, itself.
In the creation story, man was made on the sixth day. Yet prior to this was made all things that pertain to the creating and sustaining of life in this world. Water, light, land to produce food for sustenance, living creatures of every kind, and finally man.
The creation story can be seen as God’s development of an entire world where a certain kind of life can exist, and the final justification for all of that creation was man – made in the image of God and given dominion over all things in the physical world (Genesis 1:27 & 28). God created the system wherein human life could be sustained, and then created man, the final purpose of his creation – the end toward which He was working.
In Him was life; and the life was the light of man.
The subject of this statement is man; the subject of creation in the beginning was man. God did not create all things leading up to man because He really wanted a bunch of whales, or because he really wanted a world populated with fruit trees.
Truth be told, creation was all made for Jesus Christ:
Colossians 1:16-19
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
Isn’t it interesting, then, that all of creation seems to have been made to sustain human life? And that Christ came in the flesh, as a man?
Unlike the rest of creation, man is made with an eternal spirit. In what way are we made in the image of God? There is much speculation about this, and much false assumption. Joe Biden recently proclaimed in a speech that transgendered people are made in the image of God. That’s a misleading statement, if ever there was one. But Biden is not only one to misrepresent this concept.
Our flesh, our physical bodies are not God’s image; rather, our bodies were made of ‘the dust of the ground’ (Genesis 2:7). Now, that does not mean (as some today like to ‘scientifically’ conceive) that man’s body is made of dirt; it means that our bodies are made of the same stuff that the physical world is made of. That’s not the part that is made in the image of God; our bodies are the image of a physical creation.
So, let’s consider for a moment what the word says:
Genesis 1:7
7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Our souls, not our bodies, are made in the image of God. Our bodies are made of the dust of the ground, and have all things that are necessary for us to live in this world, and to take dominion over creation. Our bodies will perish and return to the ground from whence they came, for dust we are, and to dust we shall return (Genesis 3:19b).
Our soul, on the other hand, was conceived within us by the very breath of God. (So to declare, as Joe Biden did, that the mutilation of a person’s flesh, and the confusion of their mind is in the image of God is not only erroneous, but could also be conceived as a form of idolatry; saying that physical bodies have divinity: idolatry. I pray he’ll repent, because he will give account of the words of his mouth in the final day, as will we all; and that belief and philosophy will lead many to damnation to say nothing of the destruction it is reaping in the current lives of many.)
Our physical bodies are not the image of God, neither could they ever be because, as Christ declared, God is a Spirit:
John 4:24
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth; not merely in the flesh. Not merely with the body. In fact, our bodies are made to be living sacrifices to God (Romans 12:1). Thus if our body has any spiritual significance to them, it is as an offering to God; in subjecting our flesh to the truth of God (must worship in spirit and TRUTH). So to Biden: what is true? We each have a gender at conception. If we don’t like that, then it is not spiritual to try to resist that fact and alter our physical appearance, it is to accept it and live our lives according to the Truth.
In Christ was life, and the life was the light of men.
John 1:3 & 4
3 All things were made by him [Jesus Christ]; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
You were not made apart from Christ’s direct involvement; that includes your physical gender. But more importantly than that: every man’s life (or woman’s (by ‘man’s’ I mean mankind)) is given by Christ, himself. At conception, there is a spark of life; the sperm enters the egg and a spark occurs deep in the womb as a life is made in the image of God.
Interesting to note, that in this case, the body is not fully formed yet, but the spark of life is. The concept of abortion being acceptable prior to viability is a denial that man is made in the image of God. It is part and parcel to the same concept that transgenderism is somehow in the image of God; the emphasis is on the physical body: that part which is dust, and to dust will return.
Without Christ was not anything made that was made – if any ‘fetus’ is made in the womb, it was made by Jesus Christ, for without Him was not anything made that was made; and HIS LIFE is the light of men.
The life that He gives is the spark of conception; the life that He gives becomes your conscious awareness of the world; the life that He gives is you made in the image of God.
Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God. (Colossians 1:15)
Those who deny Christ deny their very lives, and indeed they will perish in the second death.
Those who conform to the image of Christ, who deny themselves, take up their cross and follow Him, these receive eternal life.
Mankind is made in the image of God, our conception is the outset of eternity. Our bodies are to be given to Him in a life of service, lived out in spiritual worship to Him, and in Truth.
Be not deceived by carnal men, who tout carnal lies and deny the light of life.
John 1:3 & 4
3 All things were made by him [Jesus Christ]; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
Amen.
