I’ve got a friend who is an American film maker who is there. Trump has said mainland China is going to be sending troops to quell he protests. Little background for those who don’t know: Hong Kong was owned by the British until he mid 90s, when England gave it back to China. The protests currently happening are because the people of Hong Kong want democracy, not the tyranny of communism that Beijing is trying to force on them.
In the past Hong Kong has been a refuge for Chinese escapinng religious and political persecution; laws on the table could swiftly remove that status, and extradite refugees back to China where they can be imprisoned for their faith (Hong Kong’s democracy is being slowly removed as Beijing imposes more and more rule – this is why they protest).
Below is a link to a brief video my friend Corey posted on facebook – some of his observations (just visual) in Hong Kong.
